Happy Endings #1

This is Tara (left). We believe that she is a mixture of collie and shepherd. We found her running around a little league baseball field during a game. When we found her home, her owner "kicked" her off the front porch shouting that she had hoped that the little B---- would have ran away for good. I told her that I would take the dog and her only reply was that I could have her if I promised not to bring her back! Now sweet little Tara lives in Baltimore County with "Loretta" who couldn't love her any more than she already does. Tara has a wonderful life now!

(right) Old Mickey! Mickey's owner would board him at Arctic Ridge Kennels for different reasons. Mickey's owner was an elderly man who lived by himself. Mickey was all he had! One Easter evening, 7 years ago, Dianne received a phone call that Mickey's owner had passed away and that Mickey was to stay with her. Now Mickey is 16 years old, he will be 17 this December, he has lived a happy, long life here. We don't know how much longer we will have with Mickey before he is reunited with his owner. It's bittersweet, we're hoping we'll have more time with him before he goes to be with his original owner.

UPDATE: Sadly we lost Mickey Wednesday, October 3rd. Mickey was a German Shepherd & Husky mix, he was a large dog that lived a good life. He gave us 7 wonderful years. It is so hard to let him go but we know that he is with his original owner, jumping and running around together in heaven. We will sadly miss you, Mickey, thanks for loving us so much!!!!!

We didn't know what kind of dog this was when she mysteriously showed up at Arctic Ridge Kennels' front door. This dog, we named Baby because she was so sweet and innocent, was matted so badly that her ears were matted to the side of her neck. Once I started clipping her, it took hours...the matting was 4 inches thick! She was clipped like sheep are sheared. After Baby was clipped we stood there with her just scratching her neck, back, legs and head because before her grooming she couldn't do it herself -- she couldn't scratch through he mats!

Believe it or not, this is Baby (right) after she was clipped and bathed! She is a Cocker Spaniel! She is a beautiful champaign colored puppy. Baby now lives north of Pittsburgh with her best friend, Molly, another Cocker and their owner Kay. We feel pretty sure that Baby lived outside maybe her whole life until she came to ARK of Hope Rescue. Now she sleeps in bed with Kay and Molly. Now that's a dogs life!

Angel is a wonderful German Shepherd who at one time must not have had a kind life. After being tossed out of a car, Dianne took her home to live with her. Whoever had Angel before must have been an abusive male because she was very scared of men. Dianne had just lost her 17 year old shepherd and thought that Angel was just what she needed to help with the grieving. Boy was she right -- even though Angel could never replace "Sheena" she was just what Dianne needed. Who knows, maybe Sheena sent this Angel down just for Dianne.

Maverick (right) is an Alaskan Malamute. A beautiful 160 pound male malamute who was bought and, at the time, loved but the love soon faded when it came between his owner's wanting to do things that Maverick couldn't go long with doing. Like moving into a one bedroom condo! Maverick was placed into rescue at 10 months old. He found his wonderful family in Cumberland, Maryland. A few years after moving into his new home his mom and dad decided to get married, and guess who they asked to be their ring bearer. Who else but their four legged son, Maverick! Aside from having to wear a tux for the wedding, Maverick is a very happy puppy!
