Thunder & Lightning's Story

This is our beautiful Thunder. Thunder is 4 years old, a wonderful red/sable and white male. He has been neutered, he's up to date on his vaccinations and is very friendly and lovable.

This is our beautiful Lightning. She turned three years old around Christmas time and is ready to move into her new home. She has been spayed, is up to date on her vaccinations and is looking for the perfect home for her and her mate Thunder. You see...she refuses to leave the Ark of Hope without her Thunder!!

Here are Thunder (AKA  Rolling Thunder) and Lightning (AKA Striking Lightning). Their owners moved away and left them in the back yard in a 4 X 4 fenced "kennel." They were there for approximately 3 weeks when we received a phone call from a neighbor stating, "these two dogs may need your help." It took another 3 plus days to talk the owner into releasing them to The Ark of Hope Rescue. Once we had the papers signed relinquishing ownership, we took them directly to the Vet's. Below you can see what bad shape they were in. The vet was not sure that they would survive.

Both Thunder & Lightning are now very healthy and are waiting for a family to adopt them. But there is only one problem...they really want to be adopted together! They have been together their whole lives thus far and do not want to be separated now. They are life mates! They do need a home with a fenced yard, they have been spayed and neutered and are up to date on all of their vaccinations. They will remain here at the Ark of Hope until the perfect family decides that they need Thunder and Lightning as much as Thunder and Lightning needs them!!!

This was Thunder when he arrived at ARK of Hope Rescue. He weighed 28 pounds. He should have weighed 65-70 pounds!

Thunder's waist was so skinny I could make a letter "C" with my hand and place it around his back.

When Lightning came to ARK of Hope Rescue all four of her feet were infected, raw and bleeding. Most of the pads were burned off due to living in their own feces. She didn't want to walk, she would rather be carried around and held!

Just three months after Thunder arrived at ARK of Hope Rescue he went from 28 pounds to 68 pounds! WOW! He is three times as wide as he was when he arrived here!

SAD UPDATE: After many years of the two of them being inseparable, Thunder has passed away. Lightning has found a new home, although she misses her mate, Thunder. We know how you feel, Lightning. We miss you both. We hope Thunder is frolicking in Heaven with Chance and all of our other furry friends who have gone before.
